Free financial calculators you can embed

For those developing web apps, you may find it useful to add a few tools to your website. I found this on LinkedIn.

    Hey Paul,

Thanks for the links to these. As I'm developing a product that allows you to easily create your own embeddable calculators without any code, I would love to know your use cases or what you wish you could do!

Currently I have my own private program to calculate the Adjusted Cost Base (a Canadian tax requirement) of US Shares I have bought and sold. Then I have to manually translate this into Canadian Dollars using the exchange rate of the relevant date taking the x-rate from the Bank of Canada. This rate has to be applied to the BUY and the SELL values to calculate the Capital Gain.

https://www.adjustedcostbase.ca does this but most of the functionality is for premium users. As you can see I rather do it manually than pay which may be a problem if you want to monetize it.

Also In my extended family we keep a spreadsheet to split bills for meals and other things we buy on behalf of each other. There are multiple items across multiple dates, split in different ways between different people, and paid by different members.

      Hope that helps @LeroyK

        Definitely helpful!

There are so many handy calculators and tools that help us in every day life, I don't think it's reasonable to expect to pay for them.

That's a cool program you wrote though! Does BoC have an API to get x-rate at a specific date?
I have a friend who has done day-trading, I should ask how he did it as I know he mostly traded US stock from Canada as well.

I don't think the BoC has an API but you can scrape it. Data is published once per day so it is not high volume / realtime. Their terms say "1.3 Use of Content: Notice Requirement
If You provide content from this website through paid services or incorporate any content in documents for sale (regardless of the medium), You must inform any prospective purchaser, prior to its distribution or sale, that said content was obtained from this website and that such information is available on this website free of charge."

I think day traders have quite a high volume of transactions and their tax calculations are different from my long term investment trades.
