Share your startup here and I will give you in-depth, actionable product feedback.
Share a quick description of your app if you'd like, but that's not necessary (i.e. imagine I am a customer clicking a link to your app -- only share what I would see in that case).
If you have a list of competitors or idols available, share those too.
I will give feedback on positioning/branding, design, copy, user flows, onboarding -- whatever is necessary to make your product work better for your users.
If you have specific issues, please share those and I will focus my time there.
I won't go in order of receiving requests (seems an unfair way of doing it).
If you have d1/d7/d30 retention numbers, and are willing to share them, I will go through your onboarding process and give you actionable advice on how to improve your retention.
Hi sobbuh,
Would love to know what you think of wimit.app – an app that helps you find a place, date and time to meet your friends with a few taps instead of endless chats.
Thanks!
Hey. So I run an event discovery newsletter for Black Millennials currently only serving Nashville.
We usually introduce users using the following link. Themove.substack.com. All the links lead back to our web app (web app themovehq.com) It is a work in progress but the web app does 2.1k in uniques as of last month and we probably will do 3k+ this month.
You can give feedback as you see fit. Help on user flow would be great.
I don't have retention numbers by day but 7day is 30% and 30day is 45%.
Hey, thanks for taking me up on this offer.
Good start. *'s indicate priority/importance, IMO.

[1] themovehq.com/
[a] This main landing page is not useful. Get rid of it.
Users are unlikely to sign up before seeing content. Do you have numbers on this? i.e. what percentage of users are doing form submits vs clicking through to the explore page?
I would guess most people are clicking through to the content. So this just adds a barrier to the user getting value
Instead, go straight to the content (/explore page) and have a header and email signup on that page. Or go straight to your newsletter page and have a link to the explore page front and center on that.

[2] themovehq.com/explore
I've done a small redesign of this to give you some inspiration: https://imgur.com/a/RrUBdxo
This is just cleaning up the design so that it's more structured and clean.
For example:
[a] Top menu area is crowded and my attention is on the city changer instead of the events.
[b] In your event listings, keep the title next to the rest of the content. When you split it up with an image in between, it becomes hard to read for the user.
[c] Add some more spacing to make it easier to read/separate events.
[d] Change text sizing to be more consistent. Title should be largest (and maybe a different color), with the rest being a lighter weight/color/smaller size.
To be honest, this is pretty boring.
[e] Needs more attitude/excitement/charm/flare. Something that makes it "the Move". ***
I'm imagining one of my friends who would tell me what the move is tonight -- he's going to be extremely hyped about it. He's gonna be pumping me up about going to this event. This is what your newsletter feels like, and that's the right tone IMO.
Speaking of which -- where do you like to the newsletter from your website?
[f] I would definitely find a way to get that newsletter content onto your website, and to put it front and center somehow. ***
[g] Video Content ***
I would highly consider having video content of you describing specific events i.e. "the move" this week. Pick two or three really exciting events and do a quick video -- like you're telling a friend about those events. Then post on your site, youtube, instagram, snapchat, etc.
[h] Focus on curated events. ***
Right now there’s no differentiation between events, so everything gets lost in the mix. If people are coming to you, and you want to position yourself as the place with the best events, there needs to be curation.
[i] Mark the top events to clearly show them and separate from other events ***
[j] For all top events, include a quick blurb from you (similar to the newsletter) on the event page.
[k] Add categories and a filter.
You could do thematic categories that wouldn't be found on other event sites; “affordable flexing" is great. You seem to have a good handle on what your users want to see and what they are interested in experiencing. so go all in on that.
This gives you a chance to add a bit more flavor/uniqueness to the site. Will make it feel a lot more special.

[3] Event page, i.e. https://themovehq.com/e/ec-workshop-improv-for-communication-by-unscripted-improv-716902
[a] There’s too much going on here; a lot of replicated information and my eyes are moving all over the page. The text is too wide on my screen which makes it hard to read.
I would use a single column layout. ***
i.e. imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/wdwG7OM
[b] In terms of content, I would try to make it way more personal. Don't use boilerplate event text -- that's boring.
I would add some more information (particularly about curated events) from your point of view. Why is this “the move” tonight? Why are you guys excited about this event? Again, video content would be even better for this, IMO.
[c] In terms of sharing, I would ask your users how they find out about events, where they share events, what apps they use. For example, I use whatsapp to share links with my friends -- so having a link to share on whatsapp would work really well for me.

[4] Content / Marketing
[a] Once you have 'hot' events, share them with the venues / event organizers and see if you can get them to repost it.
[b] Produce some more content that is shareable in your community and is evergreen. ***
i.e.
"Best Nashville Hot Chicken"
"Best Black Owned Restaurants in Nashville"
"Best date night activities in Nashville"
"Best date night restaurants in Nashville"
"Our Favorite Black Owned businesses in Nashville"
Highlight some venues and share it with them; get them to share it on their social media accounts.
[c] Do interviews with black business owners. Get them to share those interviews on their social / etc.
[d] Are you posting on insta / facebook events / snapchat? Those are all key places you should be posting content to, and you should be showing all of those on your website too. ***
[e] And again, your newsletter content absolutely needs to be visible on the website.
---
[5] Chat
[a] Instead of leading them to a landing page and asking for an email -- start a facebook group, discord, subreddit, or slack channel. Something that's easy for people to join and can get you started right away. ***
---
Hope that was helpful. Feel free to ask more questions, if you have any. Cheers!
I should have said this in the write up. One of our biggest issues is both me and my friend that are working on this use laptop/desktops and it seems like you did as well. Over 90% of our traffic is mobile. This is something that we didnt account for. Do you know any resources or sites that show some best practices for search/discovery?
Re: mobile ;
The same ideas work, just focus on mobile first in that case.
Lead with value, tell the user what you're about right away. Don't make them click too many buttons:
Again, focus on curated events and really singling out the events that you want people to know about.
Video content is great for mobile. Subtitle the videos for people who watch with sound off.
More personality/character -- add short descriptions in your style (i.e. like on your newsletter) on the mobile page that tell me why I should care about those key events. I would try to make those descriptions a little longer (just 2-3 sentences) that really hype up the event.
The photos you have are not great at the moment, so I would consider removing them or finding some way to get better photos. This could be quite difficult, as many of the events you feature might not have good photos.
I would rather see a text writeup like your newsletters have vs the current layout of photos that don't really entice me.
IMO, the newsletter is better than the site right now, and with a few changes could make for a good UX.
---
I would focus on local search/dicovery by partnering with existing venues and businesses.
I.e. a common tactic is making a "best ____ of 2019" and then making stickers that those businesses can put up.
i.e. You could make stickers for "best black-owned businesses/restaurants 2019" and have your logo/site on it as well.

This is a good strategy I would look into replicating for content creation and SEO longer term: https://marketingexamples.com/seo/dominate-long-tail-keywords
Thanks so much. We have been struggling about how to make the newsletter come to life. A lot of people have asked us to do the newsletter in other cities. It is just really time intensive to do that when we can display the information in other ways. Either way we are playing with more text forward lay outs now.
May I reach out to you directly via email or another messaging app?
Sure, send an email or via whatsapp works too; +49 178 319 4998.
Give me 24 hours cause I will have questions but I wanted to say THANK you for taking the time and giving such detailed feedback!!!
