I built a curated podcast player focusing on serialized podcasts during the pandemic. It turned out no one wanted that.
I thought I should repurpose the curation work into a free podcast recommendation newsletter. So I put up a landing page for that a couple of weeks ago. I've tried running reddit ads focused on both the "interest group" podcast listeners and towards people subscribed to r/podcasts.
So far I have 40K impressions, 60 click-throughs and exactly 0 (zero) signups. What's wrong here? The copy, the value proposition, the design, the targeting? Podcast recommendation newsletters are an existing thing. So I know that it can work. What's broken with this one?
"Free Podcast Newsletter" comes off as a little spammy to me. I'd change that heading to highlight the value your newsletter will provide instead of the free price... you can mention that elsewhere.
Landing page url?
I think make a custom landing page with carrd newsletter.seasonpods.com.
Don't really listen to podcast but what differentiates yours from the recommendations in Spotify?
If you are curating it you might want to add in the word "curated" to give a human touch to it. its a newsletter and quality is king when you're doing newsletters.
hey @oivvio
Great idea and people need more curated content in their life. noise is abundant.
Based on the numbers you are showing it seems like the problem is multidimensional. 40k impressions with 0 signups is an indication you should change a little of everything.
Although I strongly recommend asking if people actually would need something like this, not a strong podcast listener here but I'm fine with what Spotity or people I follow on Twitter suggests. JTBD framework is a great way to find out customer needs.
Start with the value prop, so that people understand it's handpicked and not AI motivated by a company's growth. Also, look into the design a little, seems rushed but maybe this is my designer eye.
Here's a similar side project I worked on for books as an example. Curated list by me and from a Reddit community. Feel free to get inspired or even copy.

Good luck!
To piggy back off this, I'm a pretty strong podcast listener too. I don't remember how I found Indie Hackers OR Python Bytes, but I did, and since then I haven't listened to a single suggestion from anywhere. I hear about a podcast by listening to a podcast and hearing mention of it, or they have guests from other podcasts and if it fits what I want to listen to, then it goes on my list.
Unless someone listens to, believes in and recommends podcasts aligned to what I want to listen to, then it's pretty doubtful I'll take advice from any suggestion service.
I built Freetime to track this very thing. Hear of a podcast from a friend or on another podcast and throw it on a list so ya don’t forget.
