Hey! Does anyone have any experience with a true freemium model with your SaaS? I'd to hear about the good, bad, and the ugly!
My SaaS product is freemium, though it's B2C and available on the App Store and Google Play store, so I don't know how relevant my experience may be to you if your company sells a web-based B2B SaaS product, for example.
Anyways, here's a few thoughts...
The Good
The Bad
Freemium has worked very well for us, though again due to the nature of our product and target market, we're pretty well suited to this business model.
Thanks for the feedback Jeffrey! It's great to hear about your experience.
I love the idea of being able to get more feedback from users so we can achieve better product-market fit. I like what you said about "opening the door."
The support point is an important thing for us to consider. We are a small team and do not have a full time support person. The extra load will fall mostly on my shoulders.
Again, thanks for your feedback!
There's definitely lots of benefits. But you'll have to work to streamline support as much as you can. We're a small team as well (3) and ended up investing in a knowledge base, lots of saved replies/macros in our support software, and even removed support in the apps for free users.
This is just a minor roadblock, though. Anybody can reply to our welcome emails or send us a note to our support email address. We don't really enforce paid-only support, we just encourage users to find the answers themselves.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Thanks Jeffrey! I appreciate your feedback! I'm curious, what do you use for support? We use Intercom now but are looking for alternatives.
You're most welcome :) We use HelpScout, and only offer email support. Intercom, when we first looked at it, seemed exorbitantly expensive for a service like ours - with 99% accounts that would never pay us, and the 1% that do pay a low monthly price. It seemed that the Intercom (and others) didn't have a pricing model that suited a business like ours. I'm not sure if this is the case now.
Awesome, thanks for the info Jeff! We used to use HelpScout too! We switched to Intercom to keep all communication for on-boarding, support and lead generation in one place. Good luck with everything at Mealime!
Thanks! Good luck with you as well :)
