Hi indiehackers!
My product is a digital character sheet ( krakensheet.com). I recently shipped what I feel comfortable calling a v1 of my product, and now I'm trying to figure out what to do from here. I've reached out for feedback on pricing already, and I've received many responses that even $5/mo would be expensive for them.
I never built Krakensheet to be a huge multimillion dollar business, I built it for myself - but I'm trying to figure out the best way to add some monetization in. I'm debating between three options:
Freemium - I'd reserve some feature set for paid plans only (for my product, this might be something like the number of characters I'll store, or the ability to use certain non-core classes or races)
Supporter only - This would be a "Pay what you want"/mo option, similar to patreon. I imagine I'd set up a nag notification weekly(or something) to get people to consider supporting the product, along with a slider from $1/mo to $15/mo.
Paid only - This is the straight $5/mo + trial period way. I really want this to work for my product, but because it's marketed to consumers directly I feel like going this way would inhibit my ability to grow.
The biggest advantage I have with my software is the fact that my users would be showing up to a tabletop RPG session with their friends - I want to make sure this golden marketing opportunity happens as naturally and often as possible.
What do you think?
