French founders: when did you switch from micro-entrepreneur to SASU?

I ran a simple comparison for solo service businesses in France, and the switch point is later than most people expect.

Same assumptions across both options: solo founder, low-cost B2B services, no ACRE, straightforward setup.

Net retained in my model:

  • 40k EUR revenue: micro-entrepreneur 29,560 EUR vs SASU 22,610 EUR
  • 60k EUR revenue: micro-entrepreneur 44,340 EUR vs SASU 33,425 EUR
  • 80k EUR revenue: micro-entrepreneur 59,120 EUR vs SASU 43,925 EUR

So the real reasons to switch often are not 'more money now' but:

  • VAT / threshold pressure
  • real expenses becoming material
  • wanting a more formal company structure
  • preparing for hiring or a future partner

If you made this switch in France, what actually triggered it for you?
