The last todo: having some beer with ex-colleagues at a pub, refresh during the weekend and switch to another full-time, but this time as a full-time indie hacker!

I did this two years ago and had a deadline on my 40th birthday. I earn a quarter of what I did as a management consultant but now I sleep in until about 10am (I have bipolar disorder so this has been so helpful to my mental health!).
I downsized, I sold my house and me and my family now rent a smaller home. Paid all of my debts and started to build a small boutique agency which is doing well and providing me with a good income.
I am now jumping on the indie train and have 30% of my week dedicated to small side projects that will be my personal empire. I don't post much in twitter but will start covering my journey with monthly income breakdowns.
Nice! I'm turning 40 this July, so it was also some kind of symbolic deadline for switching :)

What is your main marketing strategy?
Main strategy is an email cold outreach, other things that works are social media and word of mouth starts bringing new customers as well. Will focus on SEO from now on as well.

Good luck! Some unsolicited advice: stick with it during the hard times, check in frequently to make sure you're doing the things you need to do even when you don't want to, and don't forget to enjoy the journey as much as you anticipate the destination.
Thank you! I'm building various things for almost 14 years now, so the journey with side projects is very long, but I still enjoy it! Btw OnPodium is my first try with building SaaS. I've spent thousands of hours building "the next big things" and it went literally nowhere ;)

Thank you. So I'm working on a website builder (dedicated to podcasters) for almost 20 months now, and reached $4000/mo sales revenue.
I'm a father of 3 kids, having quite big living expenses, but keeping in mind my current income from OnPodium (https://www.indiehackers.com/product/podsite) + savings I can easily move forward at least 1 year, even if we let assume that there will be no growth. In case it's growing from day #1, I'm pretty sure the growth will be even faster. I have planned a very long roadmap, it will not be only a podcast website builder, but also a podcast hosting platform, videograms maker, podcast branding, and marketing platform :)

Working on my own product has been so rewarding in ways that I couldn't ever get when working for someone else on their product. I hope you'll have a similarly rewarding time.

I did the same 5 years ago. The first 3 years were shit. Little money, lots of anxiety. But the two years after that were the best I've ever had. I have the best life I can imagine. And it's still getting better.
My point is... it took longer and was harder than I thought. But it was all worth it.

Thank you! I would say competition is always good, if you have competitors, it means that you're building a thing that people need :) also the good thing is that podcasting area is huge.
There are already podcast oriented website builders out there, and it's not a problem if Justin launched one more. As I've mentioned, I will launch podcast hosting on OnPodium, now thinking about providing hosting for free + increase website price :)
Great points! I'm building the URL shortener T.LY and there is a ton of competition that have been at it way longer than I have 😭.
But something did make you build another one, so there's obviously something you think everyone's missed in this space. What was the inspiration?
My goal was to create a more affordable alternative to Bitly and replace Google's URL shortener since they shut it down. When I started T.LY, Bitly charged $1,000 a month for a custom domain which to me seemed crazy. T.LY starts at $5 a month and includes custom domains and more.
Yeah, there's room for cheaper shorteners with a nice free tier for sure. But you'll need scale to make a living off this, and scale isn't easy for bootrappers.
Yes that is the struggle I am facing. It takes a lot of $5 users to make a living. The link shortener extension has over 400k users so figuring out how to convert a higher percent to paying users is my current goal.
