Friendly reminder - sanity check production (my fail story of today)

Major facepalm moment for me today.

I launched Visual Office a few weeks ago, got a few trials coming through. I then was approved for the Slack app directory, after a brief rejection regarding oauth permissions, and then celebrated.

Then crickets, despite my best efforts. No trials for 12 days, despite some traffic to the landing page. Today I decided to fully test the onboarding in production, because I am sending it to a few people I respect for feedback.

Turns out... the entire installation experience was broken!

Just a friendly reminder to test your production sign up experience a bit more often than you think :)

I created frontendrobot.com so I don't have any more excuses for not testing my projects. It has grown into a company and quite a big project since then. It seems to be fitting your use case perfectly. Give it a try.

      Thanks marioc, this looks good.

In this case, my production sign up means I need to sign up for a brand new slack workspace in many cases, which requires going to my email to retrieve a code :( I may be able to leverage this for existing workspace installation though!

Yup been there my friend! It's like a suckerpunch to the guts!

I started to ask myself questions like:

"What is the single most important thing that needs to work?"
"What is going to piss my customers off the most if it breaks?"
"What is going to hurt our business the most if it doesn't work?"

Then I would use the answers to create myself little checklists that I could run through after each update. It helped me massively :)

I am absolutely going to have one of these lists now :)
