From 0 to Launch: The Unglamorous DNS & Email Deliverability Hell Nobody Warns You About

Building Wohnly — an AI-powered apartment application tool for the German market — sounded straightforward until I hit the invisible wall every SaaS founder eventually faces: getting your emails to actually land in inboxes.

I spent way more time than I'd like to admit configuring SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records at my DNS provider (Strato), trying to get Loops.so to play nicely with Microsoft and iCloud addresses. Turns out German users love their @icloud.com and @outlook.de addresses — exactly the ones with the strictest spam filters.

The fun part? Everything looked correct in every DNS checker tool. Green checkmarks everywhere. And still — emails landing in spam for a chunk of users.

What actually helped:

  • Waiting 48h for DNS propagation (obvious in hindsight, painful in the moment)

  • Manually testing with mail-tester.com to catch subtle misconfigurations

  • Realizing that warm-up time for a new sending domain is real and not optional

If you're building in Europe and using any email tool besides the big three (SendGrid, Postmark, Mailgun) — budget extra time for deliverability. It will humble you.

Currently at early users, iterating fast. More updates soon.
