From 10 to 1000+ Twitter followers: growth framework

I started being active on Twitter about 2,5 months ago. Now I got 1200+ followers.

I'm not saying it's something huge and I'm a Twitter Guru.

I just share my experience, because it's really hard to gain the first followers from scratch.

Why Twitter?

My goal was to attract new customers to Insquad. (b2b startup, we help ambitious startups hire superb devs. If you need my help, I'm here).

First results

• 1200+ followers
• 20 demo calls
• 2 new customers

Here is the growth framework I used:

Step 0

• The goal on Twitter → Understanding of target audience → Strong positioning
• Update bio and background

Growing audience

Step 1 — Commenting and engaging

1. Find 30 influencers that have your TA and add them to the list
2. Write at least 10 comments per day on fresh tweets. It will generate ~100 profile visits → 10 followers per day
3. You leverage commenting approach to get the first 100 followers (~5 influencers and ~10 micro-influencers)
4. People see who is following you from those whom they are following. It directly affects conversion to follow from visiting your profile.

Step 2 — Follow people with less than 1000 followers

1. Find people with an intersecting audience but not influencers
2. Follow them to get follow back

Step 3 — Running 🔥 threads

1. Write 1 thread per week. Launch on THU or FRI
2. Writing a thread

1️⃣ First tweet in the thread (hook):
a. Catchy
b. A lot of authority
c. Provocation
d. Use 🧵 at the end
2️⃣ Content part:
a. Start with 1\ 2\ etc.
b. Summary at the end
c. CTA to repost + subscribe in the last tweet

3. You need at least 2 influencers(10k followers) and 5 micro-influencers(from 500 followers) who will RT your thread to launch. You need to leverage your network, as described below, to find influencers:

a. Slack, Discord, Telegram Communities. Ask for RT and comments
b. Paid RTs from influencers ~$50 per RT (50k+ followers)
c. You can run paid add

Step 4. Networking

• If getting a follower with 1000+ followers, DM him with a personalized message.

• If getting a response from an influencer in the comments, ask him to connect to be in touch.

• Comments management in your tweets

  • Write names
  • Like on every comment
