My most valuable '23 lesson — you can not grow without trying something new.
We reached Ramen profitability with MakerBox.club (marketing resources for Solopreneurs) in '22 and decided to double down on what works.
The formula was clear:
- come up with a new product idea
- build it in public
- launch on Product Hunt
- acquire users with tweeting, newsletter featurings, writing guest articles, and being active in communities (Indie Hackers & Product Hunt discussions)
- write valuable content on Twitter
The problem is that this formula only worked to get 5K/Monthly. No further growth.
In April, we changed the approach and decided to try something new:
- double down on email marketing (free newsletters, content freebies, email chains)
- launch a new product type - AI wrapper (paid tool)
- launch free AI wrappers to collect emails & upsell paid products. That was the most successful experiment cause we got SEO & Influencer marketing on autopilot. Millions of views without any effort and sponsorships: TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Newsletters. Tools we launched:
Now, we're going to double down on these channels.
BUT as soon as we reach the new plateau, we'll return to the experiment stage 🔁
Great article, Sveta! It is truly encouraging to read about someone's experience of breaking through the 5K/Mo plateau and then almost quadrupling their income over such a short period. It's an inspiring reminder that trying something new has the potential to bear great results. Well done!
Great job, Sveta! Your innovative approach to marketing and experimenting with new strategies is inspiring. It's impressive to see how you've been able to increase your monthly revenue by trying something new. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your future experiments and the continued growth of your business. Keep up the great work!
Impressive tools
Loving the engineering-as-marketing approach!
Currently in the first phase and planning my PJ launch ^^ Any advice, btw?
I agree with you.
I launched my design subscription agency https://www.pentaclay.com last month.
Already acquired 2 clients and 8+ client meetings. All from inbound reach. I tried cold emailing but didn't succeed there.
Starting a newsletter and sharing freebies is a good idea I think.
Cool project. As a dev who hates marketing (or just can't do it right) I am going to try your marketing plan with my project. Thanks!
So cool looking forward to the 50K plateau can you also give more insight post is a bit short.
Impressive tools, Sveta! I tried the user persona generator, and it works great for me. I'm gonna try other tools.
