For years, ideas for how technology could be a bit better have been rattling around in my head. It was less a grand plan, more a persistent background noise of ‘what if?’. The concepts were there, but the path to making them real felt impossibly distant.
Then, the game changed.
Suddenly, the idea of ‘vibe coding’, describing a concept, a feel, a philosophy to an AI partner and having it translate that vision into production-ready code became plausible. That possibility triggered a focused investigation. I took the app ideas that had been abstract thoughts and started to properly explore them. Could they actually be built this way?
The answer was a definitive yes.
And that's when I went all in (and I know I'm not the only one). The chasm between idea and product was gone. It's been replaced by a bridge.
Let's be clear. Life is good. My career as a QHSE Professional is secure, life in Devon is comfortable. But 'comfortable' isn't the end goal. It's a platform to build something bigger. With this new capability, the question is no longer "what if?", it's "what's stopping me?". The answer is nothing.
This is the logbook for that journey.
The Learning Curve: From Copy-Paste to Orchestration
I want to be honest about the "how." I didn’t start this as a senior engineer. Six months ago, I was copy-pasting code blocks from ChatGPT into Android Studio and hoping it would compile. It was... not ideal.
I quickly realized that if I wanted to build serious products, I had to respect the craft. I learned Git. I implemented version control. I started using the Gemini CLI to manage the codebase.
Today, my stack has evolved into a hybrid workflow. I use Claude Code for architecture, Claude Code/Cursor for the heavy lifting, and Gemini for logic checks—switching between them based on the task and token economy.
I am conscious that thousands of people have spent years studying to learn what I am now doing with AI assistance. I don’t claim that using these tools makes me a "programmer" in the traditional sense. I see myself as an Orchestrator. I scope, I direct, I review, and I learn the code as I go. I am incredibly grateful for this technology; without it, these ideas would have stayed in my head forever.
Now, six months in, my stack is settled. I’ve built a library of shared code packages to speed up development, and I’m ready to tackle the complex projects in my schedule.
Operation: Sovereign
The whole thing has a name. It's a two-stage mission:
Stage 1: The Launchpad. The objective is to hit a specific financial target—the "Freedom Fund". It’s the figure that buys back my time, valuable time, creating the runway that lets me leap from the 9-to-5 and go all-in. The engine for this stage is a portfolio of focused software.
Stage 2: Empire-Building. With the launchpad secured, the goal is to scale up. To build more ambitious software and grow the business into a multi-stream digital enterprise capable of securing indefinite financial freedom for my family (I know, but I’m going for it).
I know I’m at the beginning. Just a tiny voice whispering into a maelstrom, but I’m not stopping.
The Current Fleet
We are already shipping. Our mission at Sky-Hi Digital is to design and build clear, thoughtful tools for the 'Thoughtful Pragmatist'—the person who is tired of the digital noise and just wants tools that work.
What’s for Tea? (Live) A simple decision-maker to solve that relentless, daily question. It turns the daily dinner dilemma into a fun, family-friendly spin. It’s simple, effective, and solves a genuine friction point.
Face Down (Just Launched) This is our latest release. It’s a dual-mode focus tool built on a simple premise: Face down = Focus up.
Focus Mode: Place your phone face down to start a distraction-free session. Lift it up, and you get a gentle nudge to stay on track.
Child Lock: A non-punitive way to manage screen time. Secure the device with a PIN, and if it’s lifted, a gentle alarm reminds kids that screen time is paused.
It’s built with a "Safety First" core, including emergency overrides and thermal monitoring.
What's Next?
With the foundation laid and the stack proven, I am moving on to the flagship: Haptic Box. It's a therapeutic sensory tool designed to bring calm to the user's hands.
The bridge is built. I’m walking across it. I’ll be sharing the logs here as I go.
