As an international student completing my Masters at Imperial Business School, the pressure to secure a job was immense. As someone who struggled with accounting, I felt that my options were limited, but accounting firms were my best bet to start my career. So, when I received an interview offer from a top audit firm, I was over the moon.
I arrived at the firm's office feeling nervous but hopeful. However, something was bothering me, and I couldn't put my finger on it. After speaking with the receptionist, I was informed that the partner who was supposed to interview me was running behind schedule and would be with me in 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes changed my life.
As I waited, I realised that this was not the career I wanted to pursue. I was desperate to secure a job, but something within me told me that this wasn't the right path for me. I was lost in my thoughts when the partner finally arrived. He could see that something was off, and he asked me if I really wanted the job. I paused for a moment and then answered honestly, "No, I don't."
I was expecting him to react negatively, but to my surprise, he made me talk about what was bothering me. As we spoke, he pointed out that I should go back to my home country and start my own business. I was still clueless but he saw something in me that I had forgotten, and that was my true calling.
Years of being told to secure a job had made me forget my dreams and my vision. That day, everything became clear, and it was the first step of my journey towards entrepreneurship. I have since started multiple businesses, build several brand, consulted various startups and have had successful exits. I now think globally and feel ready to build a global.
This experience taught me that the universe has a way of guiding you towards your calling. If you show courage and faith, the universe will lead you to greatness (provided that's what you're looking for).
All I am trying to say here is to trust your instincts, listen to your inner voice, and have faith in your dreams. The path to success may not always be clear, but if you remain true to yourself, the universe will guide you towards the right path. I'm grateful for that one interview that changed everything for me and put me on the path towards my true calling.
