From Excel model to WebApp?

Dear all!

I am fairly new in this field and I want to learn as much as possible from all of you. I currently work as a financial modeller/advisor and with the adagio “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail” in mind I would like to get different perspectives on the following:

I make Excel models specifically for the needs of my clients. Using Excel is very common in the field of finance since it is transparent and easily modified. When I deliver the model, it is out of my hands and sometimes they ask me to update something to address their changing needs. Unfortunately, it is not really a recurring business in the sense that I get paid to update and for the IP during the use of the models. My idea is to offer MAS (Model As a Service), where the model is hosted in a different form, like in a WebApp. There are plenty of service providers that convert models in some kind of WebApp, but they often don’t offer support for iterative Excel functions like Goal-seek or XIRR.

What do you guys think of this idea? Do you think it will be fruitful? Which steps would you take?

I only know a fair bit of VBA and a tad of Python, so I am almost in the dark when it comes to programming my way out of this.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Pieter
