From idea to actual MRR in 30 days with no-code

Hey y’all,

It’s been one month since I launched Vocablii - a little webapp that turns YouTube videos into interactive flashcards for language learning. I wanted to share where it’s at.

The quick numbers

  • 133,973+ flashcards created
  • 4,000+ active learners
  • 10 paying subscribers (~$40 MRR)

Not life-changing, but for one month, solo, with no coding background? I’ll take it.

How people are actually finding it

Reddit has been the engine. My first post in r/languagelearning blew up and brought me 150+ users overnight. Since then, I’ve been trying to keep the fire alive by sharing useful content instead of just “hey check out my app.”

For example, I posted “800 words you need to watch Frieren episode 1 in Japanese” with a polite link to my site where I’d also put a translated interview with the cast. That kind of “value-first, link-second” approach has been my most consistent traffic driver.

Outside of Reddit, I’ve started tinkering with SEO - writing internal guides, stuffing them with keywords, basically trying to lay the groundwork. The results are tiny so far, but there are a few trickles of traffic coming in. But honestly I don't know a thing about SEO.

The hard part

Like most launch spikes, that Reddit traffic didn’t last. There’s a big difference between “a bunch of curious Redditors checking it out” and “a steady flow of people who want to learn languages this way.”

The biggest challenge right now is explaining what the product does in one clear sentence. Until I nail that, scaling beyond Reddit will stay hard.
I think that shortform video content marketing would be great. I know from my day job that the organic reach of tiktok is incredible - but taking the time to sit down and make content like this is...well I've just got so much going on

I've also tried to be active in the build in public community on twitter to try to learn a thing or two and connect with other builders. But it feels like most people there are just trying to sell you someting.

The good signs

Even at small scale, there are strong signals:

  • Some users have already created hundreds of flashcards.
  • Teachers are emailing me about using it in classrooms.
  • The response from people on reddit, even if they don't always pay is always super positive.
  • And most importantly, strangers on the internet have actually pulled out their credit card to pay. That still blows my mind.

One month in, I’ve got $40 MRR, I know there's plenty of success stories on here with people making way more, but honestly more than I expected when I hacked this together. and frankly, I used to pitch ideas like this to devs and nobody wanted to touch it. “Just an ideas guy.” And now with nothing but vibecode and stubbornness, I’ve got a live product, paying users, and a few messages from people asking me if they can join in. Ironic as hell.
