From Idea to MVP: Building a start-up in 40(ish) days

Hey everyone

As someone who typically takes too long getting to MVP without first seeking market validation I decided to set myself a deadline of 30 days to get from idea to MVP with my latest project.

So back in December 4th I started working on Klimaat with the goal of finishing by 4th January. I had some set backs on the way (catching COVID) plus I did take a bit of time off over Christmas, all of which meant I overran slightly but 42 days later my MVP was ready!

I also documented the whole build on YouTube as a motivation to myself and also as a way to show what goes into a build like this and the challenges I faced.

It won't win an academy award for video editing but any feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks :)

Interesting… did you record your whole session at the computer and then speed up the video in editing or was there some kind of app that took screenshots regularly for you?

Also, is Code Igniter like Laravel? What’s the trade off between them?

If I knew I was going to be working on it for a significant chunk of time I recorded the whole session and then sped it up for the video. Then I just recorded updates when it made sense to do so.

CodeIgniter is quite a old framework now, it's just a really simple MVP framework which is why I like it. I don't like frameworks that do too much for you because sometimes it can be hard to work out what's going on under the hood. I guess CodeIgniter and things like CakePHP were the precursor to Laravel.

Thank you! I had only used Laravel and WP (which is where I started in content and then tech).

Really cool. I think any software that has an eco-friendly angle to it is trending right now, and the fact yours is an API means it can get help tons of people. I 2nd @briancldo's opinion about a highlight reel of the process, instead of one-continuous video. Don't worry about the editing.

Honestly? Really interesting idea. This is just a personal preference, but I really like videos that show key points/highlights of the journey rather than a nonstop stream. It personally makes it easier to retain my attention. If you're going for authenticity of the process, then ignore what I'm saying haha.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback, yeah that's a good point. I know the video is quite boring so if I do it again I definitely want to condense it down and just focus on the key points.
