Hi IH community!
I'm Scott and I help run https://www.WildInkPages.com, a website builder for authors. We started in March and have 20 paying customers. NOTE: the demo is not mobile-friendly yet!
We're at $2k/year. We started by charging everyone $100/year to join our private beta. I know, we definitely should've charged more 🙄 lol (more on that below).
If you point to any book on a shelf, the authors, illustrators, editors—they all have a website. The problem is that current solutions are holding them back from selling and growing. Our platform is made specifically for creatives like authors and illustrators to get online and start selling their work quickly 💸
We have a small niche we built up over the last few years while selling an info product (I can delve into the backstory more if anyone wants).
Most creative hobbyists spend a lot on marketing materials to promote their work. It might be a website, ads, tours, PR, etc. Our bet is that we can be the #1 place to go for any author who needs to get online, promote, and sell their work.
We made a couple common mistakes early on like not charging enough and not emailing enough (Thank you IH community for teaching me!). But we just doubled pricing and so far 2 new customers, no one has said a thing about it 😎
Our next goal is to be at 40 customers by end of Sept.
I want to get in the habit of building in public so I thought I'd start here.
If you know anyone writing or illustrating a book and needs a site, please send them to us at https://www.WildInkPages.com! Thanks for having me IH!!
Congrats! Looks like you have a great product in a nice niche market 👏
Thank you for the support! It means a lot!
How did you acquire those first customers? Is the growth now done by word-of-mouth?
Over the last year we've been selling a marketing course for authors and we built our list that way. We got our first 20 from that email list and referrals.
We are going to try a couple channels soon including google ads, youtube videos, and free training content via lead magnets.
We picked up a book called Traction by Justin Mares that explores a bunch of diff marketing channels.
