Hey Indie Hackers,
I'm Vadym, and a few months ago I launched FreeQR Studio — a simple but powerful tool that lets restaurants create beautiful digital QR menus. The standout feature? Upload a photo of your physical menu, and our AI turns it into a fully editable digital menu in seconds.
Restaurants still rely on printed menus that:
Become outdated the moment prices change
Get dirty, torn, or lost
Cost a fortune to reprint (especially with inflation and menu updates)
Don't work well for multilingual customers or people with allergies
During the pandemic, many places switched to QR codes, but most solutions were either expensive SaaS platforms or clunky builders that took hours to set up.
I wanted to make it stupidly simple.
The core idea is dead simple:
Take a photo of your current paper menu (or several)
Upload it to https://www.freeqrstudio.online/digital-menu
Our AI extracts all dishes, prices, descriptions, and categories
You get a clean, modern digital menu ready to customize
Generate QR codes for tables, doors, or takeaway in one click
No manual data entry. No fighting with templates for hours. Just upload → tweak → launch.
AI Menu Import — the killer feature. Works surprisingly well even with average phone photos.
Completely free tier — unlimited items, unlimited table QR codes.
Real-time updates (change price once, it's updated everywhere).
No app required for customers — just open camera and scan.
Mobile-friendly beautiful design that looks professional.
Multilingual support (important for tourist areas).
Advanced stuff on paid plans: online ordering, waiter call button with Telegram alerts, analytics, etc.
Restaurant margins are still tight. Printing costs are up. Staff shortages mean every second saved matters. Customers expect digital experiences.
Many restaurant owners I talked to said they wanted to go digital but:
Didn't have time
Didn't want to pay $29–99/month for another tool
Were intimidated by tech
That's why I made the core completely free. I want every small cafe, family restaurant, and food truck to be able to modernize without friction.
This project started as a side project while working on other QR tools. I saw the pain point, built a quick MVP with solid AI menu parsing, and launched.
Early traction has been great — especially in Europe where allergen information requirements make digital menus even more valuable.
Solve a painful, frequent problem — menu updates are constant.
Remove all friction — the AI photo upload was the right call. People hate data entry.
Free first — lowers the barrier dramatically. Many users upgrade naturally when they want advanced features.
Restaurants move slow but are very loyal once they trust the tool.
If you're a restaurant owner reading this — go try it here: https://www.freeqrstudio.online/digital-menu
Would love your honest feedback.
If you're a maker — what do you think about the AI + physical-to-digital approach? Worth doubling down on?
Looking forward to your thoughts in the comments.
Cheers, Vadym FreeQR Studio
