From roaming charges to shipping Dialvia: non-AI web app

In 2025 it feels very odd to work on an app that does not include even a slight bit of AI in it... From my experience AI is great as an assistant and definitely makes me more productive when used correctly.

I just thought the market was very saturated with the new apps that have some sort of AI integration that did not need it in the first place. This is not throwing any shade to any AI app I believe there are some really cool and innovative ones out there.

Anyways, so this AI craze sort of pushed me away from AI and made me want to explore what people genuinely need. Then, a couple months ago I saw that Skype was shutting down. I thought to myself that's an opportunity right there. I know there are tons of calling apps and free options but not many for being able to make international calls to mobile and landline numbers for cheap (which was one of the main selling points of Skype).

So that was the origin story for my web app dialvia. I got the mvp working within 3-4 days where you can call any mobile number or landline number within 150 countries from your browser. To this day I can't believe how magical of a feeling it is to be honest.

The next couple weeks were spent testing, polishing up the UI and keeping it as simple as possible for the user. I learnt a lot of things during that time. Here are a couple of them where I am sure many people who tried building apps can relate:

  • Marketing SUCKS and I realised I just love building stuff.
  • The feeling of accomplishment you get from building a working product is absolutely unmatched.
  • The urge to give up and start a new shiny thing is an absolute killer of your success. Just stick to it and see it through
  • A bit cliche but building a product and then trying to then find a pain point to solve with that product is super backwards yet everyone (including me) does it.

Overall this is my second go at building my own project and I am by no means successful but I am learning a lot about myself and just the process of building something useful. I am at the stage where I am looking for people to give me valuable feedback on my app. So if anyone wants to use it for free just send me a DM.

This is my first post on indie hackers so please let me know how I did. Thanks
