From serving Fortune 500 to SaaS

As I sit here, reminiscing about the early days of Oriserve, I'm reminded of the quote, "It's not about the destination, but the journey." And what a journey it has been.

The year was 2017, and our small team had just onboarded our very first enterprise client in the cable TV business. The vision was simple: revolutionize customer service with a chatbot that could alleviate the burden on call centers. With Python as our trusty tool and Rasa guiding our NLP endeavors, we built a basic but effective bot. The reception? Overwhelming. Before we knew it, we were handling a staggering 50,000 chat sessions every month. A figure we hadn't anticipated.

This rapid surge in demand, however, began to reveal the cracks in our foundation. Our Python setup struggled to keep up. Recognizing the need to scale and adapt, we pivoted - transitioning our tech stack to the robust duo of NodeJS and MongoDB. And as for hosting? Digital Ocean became our sanctuary.

Then, as if the universe conspired in our favor, doors began to open, one after the other. Giants of the industry like Vodafone recognized our potential and extended their hand in collaboration. It was a time of relentless innovation. We built an in-house live chat system, pioneered a secure data transit method, and introduced context-sensitive chat flows. A feature that, back then, set us apart in an ever-evolving market.

But success, as sweet as it is, often brings its own set of challenges. We found ourselves in a dilemma. While the allure of big contracts was undeniable, we realized we were inadvertently sidelining smaller ventures. Our overheads, especially the daunting five-figure AWS bills, made our services inaccessible to these potential partners.

Just when we were grappling with this challenge, a new dawn emerged on the horizon: OpenAI's LLM. With the promise of drastically reducing NLP processing costs, it was a game-changer. We embraced this new technology with open arms, building Orimon on top of it. A testament to our ability to evolve and adapt.

Today, as I share our story with you, I feel a sense of pride. Not just in our achievements, but in the resilience and adaptability of our team. Our journey, with its highs and lows, serves as a reminder that with innovation, adaptability, and a dash of serendipity, one can truly leave an indelible mark on the world.
