FundKit - Wireframes and Updates

What's up Indie Hackers -

Two months ago, I made my first post on Indie Hackers. I talked about a problem I was having managing investments through different apps. It was the first time I talked about an idea with other entrepreneurs, and something about that post felt like a jumping off point. Maybe others can relate.

The last couple months have been BUSY. Unfortunately not with much bootstrapping and with way too much of my day job. The burnout was starting to get real... BUT, I've made some progress these last few weeks on FundKit and just life in general.

Progress

Took down the landing page - I was paying KickoffLabs like $29/month for the custom domain functionality. Definitely not needed right now.
Went down a web3 rabbit-hole - and bought fidgetlabs.eth No Idea what I'm doing with it, but my ADHD considers it a solid move.
Speaking of ADHD, I finally saw a psychiatrist! Damn if that hasn't made a world of difference. Burnout has been reduced 50%, I kid you not. Don't skip the 🧠 health stuff, lesson learned.
Made a Twitter Account - to go along with my new eth domain name @fdglabs - I have zero followers and I'd be just thrilled if you were my first. Someday maybe I'll have a pixelated monkey profile picture.
Learned React - I went through this course on CodeAcademy. I tried to do a little bit every day, even if I just did one slide of one lesson. I've been a backend dev for 5 years since graduating from bootcamp and wow are my front end chops rusty. I knew AngularJS pretty well at one point, but this really felt like starting from scratch. That course is pretty good, but definitely view the solutions if you're stuck. There were some annoying bugs where my code was technically correct but the course didn't think so.
Learned Figma - Just needed a tool for wireframing/mockups. I had used balsamic in the past but I think its no longer free (or as free as it once was). Figma actually has an awesome getting started playlist on their YouTube channel. I was able to wireframe by half-way through the second video - so a ~20 min learning curve. Definitely recommend this tool for anyone new to ui/ux design.
Made Wireframes - For the login portion of FundKit. I'll share these below in case anyone is interested
Met with Alpaca - Had a call with some of the folks at Alpaca - this is the Brokerage as a Service platform that I'm hoping to use to enable my trading app. I've learned that I absolutely can create a trading app without registering as an investment advisor (RIA) a Fully Disclosed Broker. They will handle the KYC, CIP, AML regulations and be custodians of my users accounts. Their API is slick, have an involved Slack community, and I'm now setup to develop in their sandbox. Meeting again next week to go over the account creation flow (am I collecting the right information, etc).
Started Building in React - Super glad to have wireframes, I was pretty overwhelmed without them. Hoping to have the account creation flow completed and demo-able in the next week. Stay Tuned!
The Mom Test - Finally started reading this book, 30% completed. Honestly this should be first lol. I'm really excited to exercise some of these validation techniques around this retail investing problem space. No idea if anyone other than me actually wants this solution though. Definitely need to work on validation before I dump too much more into FundKit - but I'm digging having SOMETHING to build and learn with right now.
