Gamification in complex products: boost or bottleneck?

Hey indiehackers, Kate from migroot.io here. I'm working on turning the tedious process of gathering visa documents into an engaging quest. The idea is to make something inherently boring and repetitive feel rewarding and interactive.

But after conducting 20+ product interviews, I started questioning whether this is the right approach. Maybe, when it comes to visas, users care only about speed and efficiency.

Are there any builders here who have applied for visas and gone through the relocation process? What do you think—should the experience be engaging and interesting, or is it all about speed and a mistake-free process?

For now, we've implemented an interim solution where users can toggle fun-tasks on or off based on their preference. In a couple of weeks, I’ll share what our users are choosing.

What’s your experience with gamification? Has it positively or negatively impacted your metrics?
