General struggle with finding my path

Hi all, this seems like the right place to share my struggle with starting any project or finding ideas or anything related to some success in general.

First of all the fact that I constantly have to deal with depression and adhd only adds on top of the already difficult task of thinking of a good business idea and executing on it.

I really want to come up with some product/micro saas that I can run by myself or with a co-founder which will give me financial independence one day, but my brain makes this like 100x more difficult. Also working 9-5 makes me lose all energy to even bother with anything.

For example I struggle to find any decent idea and assuming I find one then I constantly doubt myself if it's any good. This combined with me barely having the motivation to even start working on anything and then never finishing whatever I've started. All of this building into a repeating cycle and mental agony.

I know many would say it's about habit and discipline but when I feel constant low mood and mental blockage, this advice doesn't really cut it. Any better ones?

    I have an idea..

Perhaps try something different. It sounds like a motivational issue at least in part.

Consider backing up/ try taking a side step, rather than searching for a “good idea” from a cold start how about just doing something you’re interested in that’s creative. It could be learning game dev, or coding simulations or become an AI practioner, take a 100 days of xxxx challenge for something that sparks your curiosity. Something you find novel, maybe web3 or a new programming language..
Read a new book or three.. lots of options to do things you’re not doing now, whatever that is I dunno 🤷‍♂️

The point is to STOP trying to find the right idea by searching for it as an objective, but rather stumble onto something via a combination of serendipity and exploration. Seek out novelty.

At the minimum you might want to stop doing the same thing that is not working for you now and try doing something quite different and you find engaging. 🙂

This might not end up where you expect, but it might lead to success in unexpected ways.

    HTH 🍻

That's a good advice. I like the "Seek out novelty" bit. In fact that's what I usually do tbh, just didn't think it was monetizable. But as you said it might turn out to be eventually.

Perhaps that's the issue putting too much pressure on me to find some idea, when I can just keep doing what interests me naturally and see where it leads.

The issues you wrote are the same struggles every entrepreneur has. Ways to deal with it off the top of my head:

    1. Just pick a startup idea and get it out there, ignoring how dumb it might be. Do a little every day. Start with just 10 minutes and slowly increase the time if you can.

    2. Find another cofounder who has already started on an idea you like and work with them. They might help motivate you and you will have less doubt of their idea.
