Get notified when someone mentions your product

Hello.

I am Petar. Today I am launching my first tech startup. Its nothing but a landing page where I explain more about the product.
Here is the landing page: http://mentionsmate.com/

Basically its a startup that tries to help indie founders get notified when a topic, related to their startup occurrs on the internet. By doing that indie hackers can immediately jump in the conversation and promote their product (and eventually find a new customer).

Here is an explainer video where you can understand more about MentionsMate:

If you like the idea and want to try it, you can subscribe at the end of the page of the website: mentionsmate.com.

That's great! You've come up with a really helpful and creative way to keep track of product feedback - well done! I'm sure many Indie Hackers will benefit from this article.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I watched your explainer video twice and I still have no idea how that could possibly work. The reference to DropBox was also confusing because these seem to be totally different tools. If I saw this, I would scratch my head and move on. Adding some of how you actually intend to do this would give this a lot more credibility.

      Thank you for the feedback!

    Congratulations on the launch!

This sounds like a daunting task on your part. Where specifically are you looking? (says Hackernews, Indiehackers, Lobsters, Reddit, and Twitter) I could see using Algolia Search for HN. Reddit, so many subreddits. Twitter cost... sounds like a cool challenge though to efficiently map every mentioned word in one lookup and then check against that internally maybe.

edit: I will say the counterpoint to this would be the response being seen as spam

still would be cool to see trends of your brand name being mentioned

Thank you for the comment. Initially those are the places I will be looking for. Then I will probably see for more places, based on the customer's feedback.

I'd try it if you can build it, but by looking at the features you are promising I don't think you have a prototype yet do you?

And thank you for the comment.

Nop. I am working on it. Still collecting emails in the meantime. You can sign up to te mailing list, if you are interested.

Thanks. The reason why I asked was that you'd be crawling Twitter Reddit and even more social sites, that's an enormous task, if you can successfully do that for one platform you'd have a solid business already

    seems good!

This is an interesting idea. How’d you come up with it?

  8. 1

    It's a good idea

For me I think a simple landing page explaining the benefit of the site will do.

Potential audiences can sign up and connect their social media to the site and set their keywords to receive notification through email.

For upgrade, you can charge some fee for user to have the mention listed under their account like a kanba board.

You can also add auto response with different messages for users who want auto response as upgrade.

To send mention to slack or telegram or notion can also be an upgrade.

But make sure you have pricing advantage over other mention tools out there.
