Getting 3,000 Subscribers in 3 Months - My Journey

I wanted to create a post and share my journey and hopefully get tips from others along the way. I created a Substack newsletter on March 8th 2021. This newsletter is called Maxx Profits https://maxxprofits.com/. This newsletter is about different ways to make money and sharing my experiences and expertise with others to help them make money.

My goal is to reach 3,000 email subscribers within 90 days of starting this publication. I also want to share my current strategies I am using to gain subscribers and see what strategies others are doing that I may be able to adopt.

At the time of writing this post I have 903 email subscribers. I feel like I am doing pretty well for my first three weeks and and am on track to break over 1,000 subscribers within my first month.
Subscribers

My current strategies for obtaining followers has been as follows:

  1. Be direct and ask for subscribers to support for continued quality content via my Twitter
  2. Post full length articles on Reddit with "TL;DR" in the post and include the link to the post (Sometimes results in getting banned from specific subreddit)
  3. Join Facebook Groups related to your newsletter and post excerpts with link in groups (Varying levels of success with this dependent on the size of the group. Small groups tend to work better than larger ones)

These have been fairly successful for me so far however I feel like I have started to tap some of these out and need to find new avenues. Since my newsletter is focused more towards business and money I think it would do well on LinkedIn so that will be my next strategy.

Thanks for taking a read, if you have any questions or additional suggestions for growing my user base that would be greatly appreciated. Also if you are interested in my newsletter and want to subscribe that always helps as well.

I plan to write weekly updates here on how my newsletter is growing and what strategies are and are not working for me.

Good job so far! Reddit is a great marketing channel.

Nice milestone. How about open and click? What would be your goal?

My current open rate is hovering at about 58%. Which I believe is very good, my goal will be to maintain that as I grow. The challenge for my newsletter is that I talk about a lot of different topics. Like I talk about stocks but then also talk about E-Commerce, so maybe my e-commerce audience isn't interested in stocks or vice versa, trying to balance that and make sure I am able to reach multiple audience types is going to be something I have to tackle going forward.

Thanks! Mine is still a free publication and I would like to keep it free till I build a larger subscriber base.. just gotta keep finding avenues to get eyeballs on it.

You may want to try other blog sites like medium or other forums to try to promote it further, I have found some success using those avenues.
