Getting leads for online course

I recently read Arvid Kahl's Zero to Sold and I loved the section on marketing. He sums it up by saying that the most effective marketing strategy is helping your tribe.
I recently launched my online course and I'm wondering how indie hackers are generating leads for their online course by helping their tribe?
