Getting my first paying clients for my on-demand UX service

Hey everybody!

In the last few months I’ve been building Lightning UX (https://www.lightningux.design) in public, and I wanted to share an exciting update.

In the last few weeks I’ve managed to bring my first few paying subscribers on board!

This wasn’t an easy process and I don’t want to allude to it being simple. There were a few particularly difficult moments along the way:

  • Multiple 2hr+ sessions and prep calls with potential clients who then ghosted

  • Weeks of work put into original content to help build organic interest

But it’s very much been worth the effort to now have multiple exciting startups entrusting me with their UX needs. We’ve already got to work on their UX strategies, helping to validate and launch their businesses.

I’m really excited for what the future holds with these clients and future ones knowing that this concept is now validated, the process is working and everyone is happy.

I’ve helped startups improve their UX for years, and I know how difficult it can be out there - as well as expensive. It’s the reason I made Lightning UX, to make great UX and design far more achievable for startups that otherwise couldn’t afford it. It’s been great to know that solution has resonated with a few people already without even paying for ads.

My plan for the next few months is quite simple:

  • continue tweaking the service so it’s as useful as possible for current clients

  • deliver as much free value to the startup and design community as possible

  • build relationships with potential clients organically

  • explore the possibility of longer-term subscriptions

The service is now on a waitlist, as I maintain a three-client maximum rule right now. My priority is the best possible design work for my clients, not getting as many clients as possible and churning out poor quality work.

Happy to answer any questions you guys might have, and also hear if there’s any specific free content you’d like to see produced!
