✅ Key points:
💸 Take it to the bank:
@stojkovic of Will it Fail gets his first customer. Here's how:
I'd fancied her since the first time I saw her, so I'd been visiting the cafeteria daily. She was a waitress and I love coffee. Win-win.
While I was driving to work one day, just before entering the office park, I saw her approaching the crosswalk. She was staring at her phone. I honked. She got scared and we started laughing. A few months later, we started dating. Now, we're married and we have two girls — a seven-year-old and a one-year-old.
For a while, she went from job to job, always getting disappointed. I started insisting that she join me in the dark realm of IT. She refused, but boy was I persistent. After some introductions, a few "WTF is this" sorts of sessions, and lots of arguments, she finally broke.
She signed up for some QA and automation courses, and eventually got a few one-time gigs. The joy of earning that first dollar with really hard work was priceless. But it wasn't sustainable.
So we got inspired and started brainstorming a QA-on-demand service. Will It Fail was born and we started spreading the word. Weeks passed. Months passed. Not a single inquiry, not a single dime. Until one day, a guy reached out who had heard about us via one of our contacts.
So it didn't fail! Having a recurring customer, even with variable monthly revenue, means a hell of a lot. Having two kids, rent, loans, and only one salary from my day job can sometimes be really rough. So any extra money is really helpful.
We sure did have our ups and downs along the way. It can be awkward working with your wife. I used to argue with her a lot. Like, really, really a lot. But we've learned to work together.
At the end of the day, all that really matters is that she and I stay close. And that we never give up.
