Getting to 19,000 monthly clicks: Everything I've learned about SEO as a beginner
It’s been a while since my last post! Since then, I’ve been focusing on growing Remote Rocketship. I’m super excited to announce that it’s reached $2,000 MRR! 🥳 You may recall from the last post that I mentioned that the only sustainable channel to grow the website is SEO and that I was learning how to do it from scratch (and it’s now getting 19,000 monthly search clicks!). In this post, I want to share everything I’ve learned about SEO and how to approach it. In doing so, I hope you’ll also share your tips and help me fill in any gaps in my knowledge!

Great content! Just a suggestion; for the step "Identify 3-5 FAQ questions from people." when writing an article, you can use the AnswerthePublic website to see what questions do people already asking.
Thank you for this great piece of content. How long did it take you to start getting this amount of traffic?
About 6 months
Great post! It's always wonderful to see people sharing their knowledge and insights with the community. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing this! We have never used programmatic SEO before, but now I will try to test it and hope to get some good results. I have noticed that most sites that use location-based targeting and other content-based strategies are getting a good amount of traffic. Your post was really amazing, and the sources you provided were helpful.

This is a really useful overview of SEO - good substance, without overwhelming detail. Thanks!
BTW, beautiful use of TailwindCSS on Remoterocketship - looks great
Another article to consider is one explaining your decision to charge job seekers to receive job postings. I'm not saying you're wrong - it's a choice that surprises me and I'd love to learn more.
Thank you!
Re charging job seekers: I tried charging businesses but it didn’t work for me. I think for a few reasons:
Thank you.
#2 definitely makes sense.
#1 - that the market is flooded with candidates - seems burdensome for hiring managers. WAY too many applicants, most of whom get ignored, can't be a great scenario.
In 2017, I wrote a short article on Medium: "Would You Pay $5 to Apply For A Job?" (https://mgav.medium.com/would-you-pay-5-to-apply-for-a-job-d558b1687e52).
Some readers who responded were very annoyed by how they were treated and would pay $5 to show genuine interest, thin the pool of applicants, and get a guarantee of a response from the company. Others were vitriolic.
I have a job board with this approach on my (giant) list of ideas to pursue, but feel free to team-up with me, or do it yourself, with no strings attached (maybe a small cup of coffee if you clear $10/million per year in profit :)
Ha! Super interesting. The fact people would pay is really strong validation for how much of a problem this is. Not sure I agree with the solution though, but I see where you're coming from!
I'm wrong a LOT, so it may not be a great approach. -M
Thanks for sharing this!

I'm currently getting 14K monthly clicks on my music website but only $200 MRR. The only thing I'm doing for monetization is ads and affiliate income. What else are you doing to get that income?
Thanks for sharing this, I also want to learn SEO and I think this will be a great article to read for this.
Really enjoyed this read. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for this !
Hi, congrats and awesome! Can you tell me which CMS do you use for Next.js? And maybe even an article for optimizing SEO for Next.js would be cool. Thanks!
Im not using any CMS. Also, next js is already very optimized for SEO, so I'm not doing anything in addition to it!
Thanks for the reply. If you don't mind me asking can you tell me a little bit more like are you creating individual pages under advice/ folder ? I always wanted to do that since it's so straightforward, but the thing with doing that is, even if we developers are very fine with it, what if you add a not-so-code-savvy-marketer to the team? Do you plan to handle that scenario later? Just wanted to hear your thoughts! Thanks!
It's all done programmatically at the moment. I haven't thought about how to handle a not-so-code-savvy-marketer. I'll cross that bridge if/when I get there!
It's fantastic to hear about your success in generating 19,000 monthly clicks through SEO, and I commend you for sharing your experience as a beginner in the field. SEO can be a complex and ever-evolving area, and it's always valuable to learn from others who have navigated the journey and achieved tangible results.
