Nice post. I support your dropping of the the guilt over trying to make money from software. The existence of Indie Hackers is a relief that there can be a community of hackers trying to make money. On places like Hacker News, not only do people shame monetization like ads, paywalls, and recurring subscriptions, they also shame things like promotion that’s simply necessary to make money.

The vast majority of these devs then go to work at some job that’s 100x more unethical than what an indie hacker does. And they celebrate OSS then are shocked when Amazon copies it into a service so Jeff Bezos can get richer.

    Congrats!

Really annoys me when I hear how selfish and privileged people are when they expect everything for free, yet, I can imagine their response if their boss suddenly said 'oh, by the way, we're not paying you anymore but you still have to work'.

Great to hear it all worked out for you in the end. Hard work and good intentions mean a lot. Well done!

Amazing talent to build that product! So many really talented people, but you need more than that. You need a bit of business chops to make it! That's really what sets some folks apart, they're talented AND business savvy.

Lots of great insights here. It's great reading how you found the balance between taking care of your needs and contributing to the community. Also super excited to check out this product!

So many nuggets of wisdom here. And wow, amazing job. So glad you realised the value in your product and started charging for it. Kudos to you.
