Give me feedback on my idea

I submitted the following idea below to kern.al - would love a thumbs up so it can make it to the main page. https://kern.al/idea/pre-vetted-freelancer-marketplace

Problem

When you are looking to hire a part time Digital Marketing Talent ( like a Designer or a Content Writer) you would typically post your job on a job board or Freelancing platform. You get a lot of cookie-cutter responses. After you sift through the proposals, you have to message each person individually to arrange interviews. It takes a long time (at least a few hours) to find someone reliable for a short term project.

Solution

A highly vetted Freelancing platform with a reverse hiring model. All talent has been already been screened with a criteria (5+ years experience) and they all have a detailed profile ( include introduction videos and showreels in addition to portfolios). There are no job posts. All freelancers have their calendars integrated so you can just book video meetings. You can find someone top quality to get started with you on the same day.

Key Customers

  • Startups looking to have a pool of resources across various categories ( UI/UX Design, Logo & Branding Design, Motion Graphics ) and Content Writers by industry ( Blogs, Social Media Content)
  • Small Marketing and Design Agencies looking to have a reliable talent pool on bench that they can work with as demand grows.

I hope this doesn't look like a plug, but I am working on the above problem (ProvenTeam.com). I do genuinely want people's feedback on the idea and how it can be refined.

    Something like a marketerhire?

Thanks for taking an interest and for your question.

Yes, something like that. The one difference here is that Marketerhire is still more akin to an agency service as opposed to a true marketplace. I still have to fill out a form and get talk to them to identify candidates as opposed to just being able to book someone for a meeting with a freelancer tomorrow.

I would recommend reaching out to clients first (demand) before building out the supply (marketers). This way you are able to understand the need they have and see if you can actually fill the need.

I venture onto freelancing sites with trepidation! I really dislike the cookie cutter responses that show no insights or particular relevance to my project.

These days I prefer to browse potential contractors by their completion rate, earnings on the site, star ratings, stated expertise & CV.

I then invite my shortlisted candidates to apply for my project.

I guess my concern is how your vetting would be a) more thorough, and b) how it would suit a project with specific skill requirements. Bottom line is that I’d still need to review and shortlist in order to choose who to talk with, so I’m not sure if I’d save time or if I’d get a better contractor.

Hope you can find the right path for your project. The problem is real. But I think one of these freelance sites has an option for them to select a contractor for your project, so you’d need to distinguish your offering in some way.

    Good luck with your endeavor.

Thanks for that feedback. I agree, you do still have to do a little bit of work to shortlist candidates. You can get to a similar position on the other freelancing sites with the right filters e.g. their 'pro' or vetted services. There are two other places where we are differentiating ourselves

      1. All freelancers have a profile video. e.g. in the case of Designers, you would have a showreel with them talking about the projects that they have worked on. This will give you a better sense of their fit for your project.
      2. All freelancers have calendars integrated in their profiles, so you dont have to back and forth on times. You can just book Video calls with freelancers that you like. As far as I know, no other platform is currently offering that.
