Going part time with my day job!

Today I'm glad to say that I'm officially going part time with my day job so I'll be able to have a better focus on my projects.

Over the last months I was getting up at 5am to go to the office and work for around 2h30 on my own projects. Plus the weekends. This is how I was able to launch early this year: Leon, an open-source personal assistant (https://getleon.ai).

However, I have several projects that I want to build and launch, so that time was not enough for me.

During those 2 years at my day job, I worked 6 months remotely to test and validate with the CEO if that way works, that brings better trust. Also I focus hardly on the main points that would help to grow the company by building the foundations of current and future projects. Now those projects only need iterations to bring new features, etc. I could do it full time, but this is where I negotiated to do it part time: 3 days at the office and 4 days for my own projects.

To do so, I suppose the most important points were:

• See if this is possible according to your missions, responsibilities, team, etc.
• See if your manager(s) is/are open enough.
• Create trust with your entities at your company (teammates, etc.).
• Show that you are able to create value (of course).
• Try to be a real engine by kicking off the projects yourself with good documentations.

I'm using that new time to work on a new project called 2aud.io (you can enter your email to be part of the first ones), it's a service that'll allow you to convert web links, files and texts to audio.
