Good sources for starting a broad B2C user content driven site?

I know it's a difficult kind of business to profit off of, but I'm kicking off a user content site that's very broadly appealing. The plan is to aim for organic SEO as a primary driver of visitors and monetize on ads and affiliate links (there's some natural affiliate options). I have a very strong background in technology and product development, but not so much marketing. Most articles I see here focus on SaaS or niche products, so I'm worried there are things I don't know that I don't know. Any resources I can look to?
