Good ways to organize video on Linux?

Hello, Indie Hackers...

I got a GoPro and I'm producing wayyyy more video than I know what to do with. I mean, not necessarily good video, just lots of files.

My laptop has an SD card reader, so that's how I transfer files from the GoPro. Unfortunately, most of the thumbnails don't render correctly, so I don't know which video clips might be worth reviewing. (This is on Kubuntu)

So I'm left with a bunch of folders (by date), with a bunch of autogenerated file names within, and without reliable thumbnails.

There's got to be a better way. Anyone know what it is?

One more: who has a video "workflow" they could describe?

    Ay,

I do more less videos than you but here is my workflow for my Youtube channel :

    1. I shot rushs
    2. Then I rename them ALL with understandable names (eg.: how-to-create-bread-withmyface-1.mp4), even if I will not use them all.
    3. After that I create my video with Adobe Premiere Pro
    4. Once finished I archive my unusued rushs to a cold storage or to an S3 like storage
    5. I publish my video
    6. I start again

I don't know if it was your question, but maybe it could help ?

Exactly what I was asking - thanks, @KrustyHack. I was hoping to stick to free software, but I might need to get Adobe CC.

I was also thinking I'd like to set up some scripting so that I can dump my SD card into a directory, and have the script automatically

      1. rename the large files
      2. compress the large files
      3. back up originals to S3 or Glacier
      4. hide the *.THM and .LRV files

        Ay,

You can use other tools than Adobe Premiere Pro. It depends of your usage :)

For me, I have a Adobe Cloud membership at 35€/month and suits my needs. I don't do lot of editing but I like Adobe Premiere Pro and using it is very nice and smooth.

But as I said, you have a lot of tools to do video editing and maybe good free tools too !

For your scripting idea, yes it could be a good workflow to start on ! I'm not using any automation for my workflow because all my rushs (for a Youtube video) are in one file.

But in your case, automation would clearly be a game changer ! :)
