'Google-for-Friends' App Seeking Technical Co-Founder

Hi all,

Surf, an app that helps you make new friends based on mutual interests, is looking for a CTO to come onboard as a technical co-founder.

A word on the product - on Surf, users open the platform and type in a desired outcome (e.g. “I want to find a partner in London for a Kilimanjaro climbing trip.“). We match them with someone who wants to achieve the same outcome. They chat. They become friends. That’s it. Elegant. Simple. Life-changing. We want to use it to eradicate loneliness from the world.

A word on who we’re looking for - we need someone with considerable NLP and ML pedigree (prod-level). Familiarity with OpenCV (at least to the degree that you would be comfortable maintaining a third-party CV feature) would also be advantageous. Hands on experience to create simple native app creation with MERN and expo techstack will be required.

We're after someone who loves the early stage challenges of startup life and is ready to wear different technical hats. We need someone so enthused about the idea of eliminating loneliness from the world and finding a friend for everyone that they would happily work on this for a year+ pre-funding, if it came to that.

In terms of existing assets, we’ve already got lots of proprietary technology incl. key algorithms, and an app that’s well over halfway finished. Our waiting list has seen uptake in over 40 countries, we're deep into conversations with several investors over our first round, and we've attracted interest from one of the world's most eminent VC firms. We already have one advisor (prior exp. at Google) onboard and are in ongoing conversations with others. Any CTO coming into this project will be well-set-up for success.

Surf is early stage, so this would be an equity-only position at first, but, as above, we're pursuing funding actively and the role would become salaried immediately after our first round closes.

The ideal candidate would be in London, UK but fundamentally we don’t care where you live, especially if you’re the next Aaron Swartz/Tarun Mathur/Mira Murati.
