Trying to help undo the untold damage reaped by Google Ads reps advice given to unexpecting youthful 'Google ad'ers'! Hope it helps!
I've learned a long time ago to never take calls with them. Their advice is clearly to make you optimize for spend not results. I have a new rep emailing me weekly, sending me calendars even though I don't respond. It's incredibly annoying, but since my early days of marketing, you won't catch me taking calls with the Google Ad Reps lol
Exactly. It's literally damaging to their brand and platform. I love Google ads as a paid channel. I hate Google ads as a company to interact with.
You are so right! We once followed their advice and dropped 40% in a week - and stayed that way until we redid everything. Broad = bad.
Every month we get some new rep asking to meet because they have insights that will grow our business.
I suggest take the first call and consider the advice with a grain of salt, and never, never-ever makes changes with them on the phone.
I keep hearing this over and over again. Google seems to be hiring people-as-reps who are not really into the PPC business; the advice they give is pretty generic, it's like they've sat for 2-3 hours reading Google's documentation and now all of a sudden they're a PPC rep.
Better to talk to a person who's been running ads (successfully) for a longer period of time i.e. has a "skin in the game".
Yeah not even just generic but genuinely destructive. It's basically a view they have that fully automated everything in all scenarios is best. But it just isn't. Their systems don't work well enough for conversion focused strategies to work if no conversions yet. Even with that they won't even help you to setup conversion tracking properly.
Plus things like dynamic ads are just so horrendous. Like I genuinely don't see how anyone could ever make money out of dynamic product ads beyond from brand search terms for people already searching for them.
Not sure I've heard one good story about google Reps haha
