Got Landing Page Feedback for a Developer Tool? 🧑‍💻

Hey everyone!

I've been actively working on our product landing page given a lot of the feedback I've gotten from some of y'all in the past. Would love to hear brutally honest feedback from the wider community if this landing page focused towards developers/SRE/QA gets the point across 🙏

Idea looks good! I was able to understand it pretty quickly. Pricing is good too. If it's easy as clicking through on your website to set up a test with element identifiers, then that's great.

    • Landing page image and text should be vertically centered. On my 16" macbook, the image on the right is cut off at the bottom.
    • I was a little confused with "Test Recorder" initially. The nav text made me think it would be a way to test out setting up a sample test run. Instead, it asks about a Chrome extension. Does it create the test run from what I perform on the browser with this extension?
    • Docs feel a little word heavy. Would like nav menu or table of contents or well defined steps.

Thank you! I'll need to look into the landing page and "Test Recorder" as well, probably need to change that copy to something else to make it clear.

Agreed on the docs, I need to figure out a better way of hosting them than having my own way of hosting MDX, as clearly I don't have as much time to invest than a out-of-the-box documentation system.

      Thanks for the feedback! 🙏

    Interesting Idea @mikeshi42, Congratulations!

    Some wow factors:
    * Idea is clear
    * Pricing looks attractive
    * Like the Beta user discounts

    Some Observations:
    * The video in the hero section is bit tad fast and lot goes on in it, can you break the video and slow it down a bit and put it in relevant sections?
    * Had a look at the second link 'Test Recorder', I think it is usable without a need to buy your product(not sure though). So question is, is it free or do you have plan to sell that too? If you can make it clear, you might get some user traction initially who could benefit from the test recorder extension alone and then you can try to convert the leads
    * Quickly Debug Any Error section - The image appears to have a video icon and I was hoping it would play but it didnt, felt like a bug and then realised it is just an image. If you probably update with some other relevant image, would help I believe
    * As a developer, I was wondering if you have provision to integrate this with github/azure devops and some sort of api which gives results of the test back? Would be useful for pre commit hooks and raise alerts and do many other automation...

    Hope it helps!

Please feel free to DM me on Twitter (notifykamalraj) if you need any clarification. I can take a look at your app and future versions of the website and give you feedback as well. Hope we can add value to each other as makers!

Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback 🙏

Video - totally agree, I recorded it at I think 3am and was just trying to chuck something out there, I'll definitely need to rework it and some of the other landing page sections to see how I can chunk up and tell a better story.

Test Recorder - It is free! But agreed, I've totally blurred that product and the paid cloud product that actually runs tests.

      Video icon - ahhhh yeah

Provisioning this with QA flow - Super great point! I'd love to chat a bit more with you on that and understand your current flow, will shoot over a dm :)

Really appreciate all this super helpful feedback!

    Cool concept! Here's some thoughts:

    • The video at the top is perfect. I got the concept immediately.
    • There seems to be a lot of blank space on the page, between sections and between images and text. At least on my large monitor.
    • Consider framing the navigation at the top to the same width as the content.
    • Consider adding something to distinguish the sections. Different backgrounds or lines.
    • The "Failed test run" image looks like a button I can't click.
    • The two "Register for the free beta" buttons at the bottom seem repetitive.
    • on iphone X, the first block of text is cut off on the left.
    • The video at the top doesn't auto-play on iphone X

    Good Luck!

Thank you! 🙏 Super helpful, definitely have a lot of layout work to do. I'll need to look into the auto play for iPhone...

    Hi, it looks great!

    • When I click 'Test Recorder', scroll to the bottom, then click 'Learn More about DeploySentinel', I get a white page with an error message "Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).". My Chrome Developer Tools Console says "TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'init')". I'm not sure if others get the same issue or if it's just me?

    • I understand there's 2 products, right? DeploySentinel (the platform with the free beta) and the DeploySentinel Recorder (the free browser extension). The former requiring the installation of the latter. It took me some time to figure this out as, from the Home page, this distinction wasn't very clear to me. At first I thought getting the free extension was the same as joining the free beta, except without requiring me to sign up.

    I hope this is valuable!

      1. Oh my goodness thank you for pointing that out, we pushed that change late last night and I guess we didn't test it thoroughly enough. Just pushed out a fix! Guess we have some more testing to implement! haha

      2. Yes there is two different products - I've figured it might start to get confusing, and clearly it is so that's super helpful feedback, I'll need to think how to make that more clear

Cool service, great video showcasing the offering! Good luck :)

Sentences are a bit too long for my taste. Consider https://www.indiehackers.com/post/the-quickest-list-of-writing-tips-you-ve-ever-seen-a85bdcef93 ?

Thank you! 🙏 I'll take a look and hopefully chop down on the sentences :)

Looks pretty good! I get what your product does straight away from the textual descriptions. I had the need to run e2e tests for monitoring purposes before, so it makes perfect sense to me.

I found the video a bit confusing though: there's a lot going on on the screen without much explanation. It may be just personal preference, but I generally don't like autoplaying videos, nor silent ones.

(Obligatory self-plug: I'm actually working on a tool called VideoNarrate that lets you create videos narrated by an AI voice in case you're interested. But that's not the reason I made the comment above.)

Also, there's a small layout issue: on my laptop the video is displayed side by side with the primary text, causing the page to be larger than the screen so there's a horizontal scrollbar.

I noticed there's no h1 tag in the HTML, which is supposedly important for SEO.

Finally, it's great that the beta is free, but if I'm a potential user I'd still like some indication of what the price will be once it's no longer in beta.

    1. 1

I love the idea of VideoNarrate, good plug!

Thank you for the feedback! That's super helpful - agreed I wasn't super happy with the video, it felt a bit too blunt, I had a simple asset before but I was given some feedback it wasn't clear what the product was about (but that was with worse copy before). It feels too much like a walkthrough video, and ideally it feels a bit more like a gif that is super short and focused.

Ahh thank you for the feedback on the horizontal scroll bar, it didn't show up for me but I definitely see it now on smaller screens, will fix!

And thank you for the feedback on the h1, I'll definitely put the header into that, maybe just to be safe I'll put the subheaders into h2/3 or something as well.

Otherwise on the pricing point - really good call out, I was suspecting that would be the case and thank you for helping validate that.

I'll check out VideoNarrate! You mind if I send you a Twitter DM to learn more about your prior experience using E2E tests for monitoring?
