Hey there 👋
It feels like I’ve been lurking on Indie Hackers since forever. Now though, I’m finally starting out on a bit of an indie hacker journey of my own 😄
Over the last couple of months I’ve been working on DB Pilot, a new database GUI with ChatGPT integration. I announced the product on HN two weeks ago. That brought in the first ever sales for something I’ve built myself 🎉
So far I’ve sold 6 licenses, for a total of $354. Obviously a small amount, but I’m actually quite happy with it.
Considering that this is my first ever product, and that I don’t have any audience (41 followers on Twitter lol), things actually went better than expected. I was a little afraid that it would take forever to land even a single sale without an audience. So seeing those couple of sales come in felt amazing!
On a more personal note, looking back, the last couple of months have been quite demanding. I’ve worked on DB Pilot on the side next to my full-time job. That meant working nights and weekends, rarely taking even a single day off. That had its effect and recently I started to feel somewhat overworked.
So I’m super excited that starting tomorrow, I’ll be working only part-time at my day job. This means more time to focus on indie hacking, and also some more free time to enjoy life and go surf 😄
Hi Dennis, great work and congrats for launching!!
What is the underlying language model that you are using for DB Pilot AI? Do I have to bring my own OpenAI key?
Thank you Jan!
It's GPT-3.5. I'm planning to add GPT-4 as well soon, likely on a slightly higher pricing plan.
And nope, no need to bring your own key ;)
