Grain AI: Your AI Partner to Transform Lesson Prep (From Hours to 1 Minute)

Hello Indie Hackers!

I'm Cherry, the co-builder behind Grain AI, and I'm super excited to share what I've been working on to solve a massive pain point I saw in education.

The Problem: Teachers Are Drowning in Prep Work

I watched countless educators—friends, family, colleagues—burn the midnight oil. They were constantly piecing together lessons from a dozen different websites, sacrificing their personal time just to create materials that would engage their students.

It hit me: Teachers' passion was being exhausted by the endless grind of resource hunting, not by the actual act of teaching. They deserved a better way.

The Solution: An AI Teaching Partner

That's why I built Grain AI. Its mission is simple: to turn lesson preparation from a chore that takes hours into a creative spark that takes minutes.

Think of it as your intelligent teaching assistant.

You type in one topic. In 60 seconds, you get a complete set of 10+ engaging, ready-to-use materials, including:

  • 📚 Knowledge Comics to visualize abstract concepts.

  • 🛠️ Interactive Web Apps for hands-on learning.

  • 🎧 Audio Guides for diverse learning styles.

  • 🗺️ Concept Maps to connect ideas visually.

  • 📝 Exercises & Flashcards for instant practice.

It’s about quality, not just quantity. The AI tailors the content to be grade-appropriate and pedagogically sound.

How It Works (The Stack & The Hustle)

For my fellow tech-curious hackers, here's a bit of the behind-the-scenes:

  • The core is powered by fine-tuned LLMs to ensure educational accuracy and relevance.

  • Our system is built to orchestrate multiple AI tasks in parallel, which is how we achieve that crazy-fast 60-second generation for so many different material types.

  • The front-end is designed for simplicity because our users (teachers!) need to focus on their content, not on learning a complex tool.

Business Model: We're bootstrapping and following a classic Product-Led Growth path.

  • Freemium Model: A generous Free Plan to get teachers hooked and demonstrate immediate value.

  • Paid Tiers: Pro ($9.9/mo) for unlimited creation, and Pre ($14.9/mo) for power users who want premium templates and early access to new features.

My Ask for This Community

I'd be incredibly grateful for your thoughts.

  1. For the Educators & Parents here: Does this solve a real problem for you? What's the one feature that would make this a "must-have"?

  2. For the Marketers: What are the most effective channels to reach dedicated teachers directly?

  3. For the Founders: Any hard-earned lessons on user onboarding for a non-technical audience? Or on pricing page optimization?

This journey has been about more than just building a tool; it's about building a partner for educators. I'm here to learn from all of you and answer any questions!

Congratulations on your launch. It looks impressive! What channels are you exploring to attract early users?

As someone who’s been teaching for 20+ years and building tooling for educators, this really resonates.

Prep time is absolutely a tax on passion — most of us don’t burn out on teaching, we burn out on the endless hunt for materials and “busywork around the work.” I like that Grain AI is not just spitting out a worksheet, but a set of assets (comics, apps, audio, concept maps) around a single topic. That’s much closer to how real classrooms work.

    On your questions:

    • Does it solve a real problem? Yes. The teachers I work with are constantly juggling multiple preps and platforms. “One topic → full mini-kit in 60 seconds” is a very clear, compelling promise.

    • Channels to reach teachers: Facebook teacher groups, Canvas/Brightspace communities, and word-of-mouth via a few highly engaged early adopters can go a long way. Short GIF/video demos inside those communities usually outperform long explanations.

    • Onboarding for non-technical users: Show one path first: “Type topic → click Generate → see ready-to-use pack.” Everything else can be progressive disclosure. If a tired teacher can succeed in under 2 minutes after sign-up, you’ve nailed it.

Really nice work, Cherry — this feels like it’s pointed at a very real pain!

Thank you very much for your sincere sharing! You are absolutely right-teachers are not afraid of teaching itself, but are afraid of being dragged down by the trivial process of preparing lessons. This is our initial intention of doing Grain AI: let the teacher take the time back from the data pile and hand it over to the students and the classroom. If a topic can generate a complete teaching package within 60 seconds, it means that teachers can really "go into battle lightly". Thank you very much for sharing the promotion channels and suggestions. We will continue to optimize the novice path so that every teacher can experience it successfully in two minutes. Your feedback means a lot to us. Thank you very much! To thank you for your enthusiasm, we decided to give you the Pre version for half a year. Please feel free to contact us on official website!
