Grow our Audience

It's true! Growing your audience is important, because otherwise it can feel like you're screaming into a void.

Twitter is an extremely difficult place to grow an audience. I believe if you aren't bringing "exogenous" social capital to the platform (i.e. fame from somewhere else, have lots of famous friends who tell people to follow you, all your high school friends, etc.) then you're facing an uphill battle. You'll have to produce lots of good content and hope something catches on. Otherwise, every time you post, it won't be seen by enough people and random people who do see it will be like "Cool tweet! Oh... but that person only has 60 followers". Perhaps you're onto something. Growing an audience in a safe space like IndieHackers and bringing it over to Twitter is a muuuuuch easier task than competing in the Twitter game.

I agree with @pliao39 that growing on twitter is really difficult as initial screaming into the void might be really discouraging. It also seems like the more you signal you want to build your audience, the worse the outcome is.

Yes, it's true that the audience can really help you grow. But first, you need to be helpful to them, give them value, and when they find that you're giving them valuable information, they're going to follow you.
