Thanks for sharing your experience Andrew! Cool to see more and more folks try out their hypothesis before going whole hog on design and coding. 👍

Awesome article! I love your idea and especially the early execution of it. @andrewett

I am curious though. If I don't have a friend like Ben with such understanding of no-code MVPs, how might I go about building similar stacks myself? Could you go into more detail about what you did in particular with the early version (before Laravel)?

Hope you're enjoying Atoms, those look right up my alley as far as shoes. Nice!

How did you source the newsletters, at least at the very start ? With such businesses, there's always this chicken egg problem with the subscribers wanting newsletters and newsletters getting interested only when you have subscribers. I'm always confused how to solve this at the beginning.

They were able to be added for free, so all they had to do was fill out a form. Quite easy actually! Just time consuming on my end, sourcing them.

Great interview. I actually built the first version of BetaTesta.xyz after being inspired by Pear,
Building a very similar system with the same tools but for makers to find testers.

Nice Andrew! I really love the story and love that you guys chose Laravel to ship version 2.0! I'm using Laravel for soccercruit.com and hope to have a positive article like this to write in the near future.

You can't go wrong with Laravel for sure. Wish you the best with your project!

Thanks for sharing Andrew! Not bad for a 1-hour per week side hustle.

I'm wondering though, how is Carrd's SEO friendliness compared to Wordpress?

Mentioning GDPR to Pieter Levels gets you blocked from his Twitter feed. Guess who doesn't really care much about user data privacy and security. tl;dr no, GDPR won't kill your small business, unless you're a bad, bad boy.

    1. 1

Not sure but I think my script auto blocked you because you had 3x more following than followers. I get a lot of spam bots

      1. 1

It's nice of you Pieter to have unblocked me, even though we have different views on GDPR in general. Anyway - I appreciate that, and I am happy to follow your activities on Twitter. Thank you and have a nice day!

    okay.
After getting access to all the subscribers list my main question is now what to do with that? how to send emails? how to advertise my product to them? Should i send a newsletter to them? I dont understand fully how it works after getting the full access of those 12 million subscribers. Can you xplain me @andrewett

    1. 1

The list has the contact information of the people who manage those spots in the newsletters on Pear. You can contact them to set up promoting your product in their newsletter. They're waiting for you! 😏

      1. 1

        Okay i got it.
and those who manage those spots would charge further to promote the product in their newsletter @Andrewett

This looks like a good service, and at that price I will be signing up to try it out without a doubt.

I have to admit: I've already considered getting in, hoovering up all the info I can, and then performing a handbrake turn and churning up your lawn.

Without something that retains customers, I would expect that churn is going to be high, even with your low pricing. To mitigate this, you can either ramp up your prices and swallow the churn, or develop something that creates an ongoing engagement.

Being that your business is based on access to data, are there any transitory features in that data? If so, you might be able to put those fields under a spotlight as a reason for customers to keep paying your monthly fee.

Anyway, good idea, good-looking landing site, and an interesting interview too. Thanks for sharing!

Appreciate the feedback. All valid points. We try to regularly add new newsletters to encourage you to stay. The price is low enough that if you're doing 4-5 figure deals, it's worth sticking around. If it's not, I get why you'd want to unsubscribe.

I'm not sure I understand the business model. Once the subscriber finds a handful of newsletters to advertise on, there is no incentive for them to come back, isn't it? Unless they need more places to advertise and new ones are added constantly.

    1. 1

Correct. And that has happened in a few cases. But anyone who finds a good newsletter to advertise in will likely want to find another.

That's an interesting model actually. We are actively adding new newsletters so if you cancel, you don't get those as they come in.

    Could you DM your email?
