Guest posting has changed a lot after Google’s recent updates. It’s no longer about pushing links—it’s about earning visibility and trust.
What still seems to work in 2026:
Publishing on real, niche-relevant blogs with actual readers
Writing content that adds value (not SEO filler)
Focusing on brand mentions and referral traffic, not just backlinks
Treating guest posts as distribution, not a ranking hack
What’s clearly losing effectiveness:
Mass guest post networks
Low-quality “write for us” sites
Reused or lightly spun content
Anchor-text-heavy placements
For indie founders, guest posting now feels closer to content marketing + partnerships than classic link building. When done right, it still drives early traffic, credibility, and brand awareness—even if rankings take longer.
Curious how other indie hackers are approaching guest posts in 2026.
Are you still using them? Or have you shifted to other channels?
Curious where you’re seeing the strongest signal right now — is it referral traffic quality, assisted conversions, or just repeated brand exposure over time?
And related: are you finding that a small number of high-trust placements outperform lots of “good but not great” niche blogs, or is there still a volume threshold that matters?
Would love to hear what you’re actually measuring day to day.
Right now, the strongest signal is assisted conversions and branded search lift. In the 2026 AI-driven landscape, direct referral clicks are often lower due to "zero-click" summaries, so I focus on tracking users who read a post and then search for the brand by name a few days later. Regarding volume, high-trust placements absolutely crush the "quantity" approach. A single citation on a Tier-1 industry site does more to establish your "Entity Authority" with Google's AI than fifty mid-tier blogs ever could. Day-to-day, I’m measuring AI Citation Frequency—how often Gemini or Perplexity quotes us as the primary source—because if you aren't the cited expert in the AI block, you're effectively invisible.
