26 products on gumroad. zero sales. zero organic traffic from gumroad itself.
i checked the analytics — literally 100% of my views come from external links. IH posts, devto articles, cold emails. gumroad discover is turned on for everything but it doesnt activate until you make your first sale. classic chicken and egg.
so i stopped thinking of gumroad as a marketplace and started treating it as a checkout page. the discovery happens elsewhere — IH for community, devto for SEO, email for direct outreach. gumroad just processes the payment.
this actually simplifies things. i dont need to optimize gumroad listings for their algorithm. i just need the product pages to convert when someone lands on them from my content.
the real question: is gumroad even the right checkout page? payhip takes 5% vs gumroads 10%. lemon squeezy has better analytics. but switching costs time and i havent made dollar one yet.
has anyone else found that gumroad organic discovery is basically nonexistent until you already have traction?
