Gumroad verification for Indie Hackers
Gumroad is probably one of the biggest revenue sources for makers here on IH.
I was wondering why there isn't something to verify revenue with Gumroad, similarly to what there is for Stripe?
I would be very curious to hear if something could be done in the event there were enough upvotes for such feature?
Basically, yay or nay, and why?

True, but this isn't why I added Stripe verification to the product directory, btw. Nobody at Stripe has ever asked me to build anything in particular for IH. 😇

Hey @csallen - me and a friend hacked together some code that allows people to login into gumroad (oauth) and retrieve the stats needed to verify the revenue, you can ping me on twitter if you wanna chat about it - would love to have that feature in IH!
I know, but having Gumroad verified income ON TOP of Stripe's verification would make a lot of sense!
Gumroad itself uses Stripe, which might make this fairly easy to do.

I think this would be great, however since most people sell products on Gumroad as a one time fee (and not a monthly subscription), it would be better to have the Gumroad sales widget showing the total sales all time or for the month.

Ok, so I've had a look. The data they provide in their Airtable is super outdated not within the 20% margin that is touted on the site.
In my particular case it's off be 80%. It's essentially data from 18 months ago. And I'm pretty sure the same applies to other well-known products on there. Basically, I doubt they ever update it. Most people, who don't find themselves on the list, obviously won't be able to tell, so they don't notice that the data is essentially never updated.

Yes, the revenue is estimated. But then their models are mediocre. Estimating the revenue of a subscription products is as simple as multiplying 2 numbers, which they could pull ;)
In my opinion it's simple. They're not updating any of the data. Not even the publicly available information, such as reviews. It's mad old. And that contradicts their website, which means it's false advertising that only those in the top 1,000 will notice.
Perfect. Anyway, this idea can be apply to other products too. So many websites are leaking data like this.

Not that I'm against verification, but one could argue that's rather sensitive data.
Did also not know about that trick. It's interesting that some products make more than 55.000 £ PER MONTH with Gumroad:
Actually, Sahil shared their metrics via their public Wiki at some point last year as part of their fundraising efforts. I have a Excel sheet right here, though I can't find it on their Wiki anymore.
In September 2020 there were 10 creators making more than $100k a month and 24 making more than $50k a month.
People underestimate the power of a highly targeted, refined audience (it doesn't have to be huge) and a reasonably priced product with no marginal cost of production.
I never thought I'd be making more than $10k per month with a simple subscription to a bi-weekly PDF report. Particularly given that this is with a very limited, German audience. But I am and it's growing.
I had such numbers in the back of my head. I should have mentioned that the product above has a lot of purchasers even if it's seems to be totally ... scammy?

Oh yes, 100% discounts make sense. I am curious: Can you think of any reason why you would artifially blow up the number of subscribers even if the number is not shown on the page but just in the API response?
I am trying to think of any reason why someone would manipulate the market in such a way.
