Halfway through my ProductHunt launch and it's been amazing

I've been overwhelmed by the support and feedback I've received for my launch. I learned a lot from the very supportive community to help set me up for my launch. The questions I've received have been very insightful as well and I hope they help guide users.

I learned early on to build a community and network early on and I can't emphasize this enough. This is a key exercise throughout the process and your career. I will have to likely expand to additional channels to keep the momentum going.

I've also learned that many of us are enthusiastic to support one another which is amazing. No product is perfect and no entrepreneur can solve for everything. Getting that feedback either via DM or on the launch page is very insightful.

I'd love to hear from the IH community as well: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/flavored-resume

Congratulations on your launch! Your product looks amazing. How did you build up your community? Which channels did you use, how much time did it take?

I was going to ask this exact question!

I'll answer here so both of you can get the notification of an answer :)

I used 3 channels: ProductHunt, IndieHackers, and LinkedIn.

        • IH: I'm still trying to navigate IH so it doesn't produce the most results for community building. I have an active post feed here that I've been updating too: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/flavored-resume
        • PH: I try to stay active on PH always even when I don't have a project I'm working on. The community is very focused on building connections and supporting each other. They're global and very active which helps.
        • LinkedIn: As I'm directly connecting and speaking with people, these connections have been the best. I reached out directly to a list of people I built out to build interest and connections.

        In terms of time:

        • IH: Started from when I started this in May 2023
        • PH: On and off but consistent since I started the project
        • LinkedIn: On and off but I also have had people reach out to me which I keep in touch with. Really ramped this up about a week before launch

Your product looks amazing, but most importantly it solves a very real and pressing need. I think that you have done a lot of things right, beginning with getting product-market fit correct. Congratulations, once again

Well done with the launch Ed. Just out of interest, how long has the product been launched? How much time did you spend building up a community before launching?

Thank you! It's been out for about 2 months for a "beta stage":

      • General thoughts on looks/functionality/output. I got great feedback and some issues to fix. But overall the idea was very well-liked.
      • I posted on PH & LinkedIn during this time which brought visitors and interest. Lots of DMs telling me how much they love the idea.
      • About a week before launch I ramped up the community building but this is an ongoing effort regardless. Even before I had an MVP I've kept on my networking

Congratulations on your launch! It's great to hear that you've received overwhelming support and feedback from the community. Building a community and network early on is definitely important for success, and it's wonderful that you've had such a positive experience with enthusiastic support from others. I agree that feedback is crucial for improvement, and it's great that you're open to receiving it from various channels. Keep up the momentum! I'm also launching It is a little sluggish but maybe you find it interesting It is called submotion on PH
