Happy to work for yourself but not for others?
Hey,
I'm a software developer and that's currently what I do for a living, though on the side I'm trying to start a company and running a full fledged company is a dream I am pursuing.
My question for you guys is do you find that you could happily work many hours on your own company but not on another persons. I've realized that I would never want to work at a start up as a normal employee or even some of these big software companies like Apple, Google, etc because I don't want to work long stressful hours for them , the truth is unless it's my own product and company I find it very hard to care about the product or service that my employer offers and therefore very hard to be able to get myself to work long hours that they would demand of me.
Have you felt this way? I feel kinda guilty about it and I feel like I would never have the right to ask my future employees to work really long extra hours if I'm hardly able to get myself to do that for other companies.

I think you'll find many people on IH in this situation. We're workaholics when it comes to our own projects because we really care. That doesn't mean you can't find motivation and work more hours than what is written in your contract for a company or a project that you have not initiated. People will do that when the goals of the company are more aligned with their values and beliefs. There are lots of good people and projects out there.
