Has any one used Almost Cake for idea validation?
I came across Almost Cake the other day to validate one of my ideas. They offer a paid service that promises a PDF with surveyed potential users. They rank the idea on a few key metrics and tell you if it’s viable or not.
Has anyone used this? What was your experience like? Was it worth the $50?
If not, are there any competing services I should know about?
Update: I bit the bullet and paid $50 for the "Standard" report yesterday. I'll report back with what comes of it!
I took a look at the sample report they provide and I can see a glaring problem with it. Most of the comments from the "idea reviewers" are along the lines of:
When people make comments like this it's not validation. In fact, it's much worse than that, it's fake validation. It tricks you into thinking you've got a good idea only to find out nobody really wants to pay for it.
My guess, the people answering the survey are not in the target market. They are just being nice and telling you want you want to hear. People do that a lot.
In fact, the only real comment worth anything is this one:
Because having competition for an idea at least shows that there might be people actually paying for a similar product. Of course, you can probably find the competitors by just looking for yourself.
Think of it this way. Imagine you're at the beach on a hot day and you can see a huge line up of people buying ice-cream. Well, this proves there's demand for ice-cream and you could probably just go and sell more ice-cream. Heck, open your shop right next to theirs and you'd still sell some ice-cream.
On the other hand, if you tried to sell donuts you might not do so well.
I agree, I wasn't entirely sold on the value from the sample report. And honestly, it kind of reads like it isn't real. But maybe that's just me being skeptical.

The pricing page promises "3 days delivery" so I should hear back before the end of the weekend. I'll post here when I receive my report.
It's good to use the inner service program with your page. I did the same with Cake delivery Sydney service page which is hosted on WordPress.
