has anyone here tried to live streaming their programming on twitch or YouTube?
A lot many people doing this lately. Have you tried it? I felt like this is the new productivity hack or is it a growth strategy?

I briefly live-streamed my coding-sessions of a side project a few years back on twitch. Got ~ 50 followers and ~2.5k views (and two donations totalling 15$ 🥰)in around a month.
I mainly started streaming to get developers inputs on my practices, coding quality & logic on processes. I just had dropped out of uni, got time on my hands and wanted to learn to code. I had some experience with Rails so I wasn’t a total noob but I would figure out a lot of stuff on stream and albeit in a very beginner level phase, there where people that had the same questions, or weren’t aware of that feature/gem/solution.
That said, I would research beforehand if a certain feature was too hardcore for me, wouldn’t be too interesting watching me jump between tabs, stack overflow and the editor, trying a bunch of stuff that doesn’t work.
Met some developers that streamed themselves, made some friends. And then I started a job at Startup in San Francisco. I figured I’ll learn far more there so I stopped streaming. Also I had no more time then. Mhm, I was consumed by startup land. Fully. Loving it, still.
I can only recommend starting now! It’s fun, keeps you coding and introduces a lot of live constructive criticism about your code (I had comments stream right into my terminal).

Curious, how often did you stream and for how long? Also how did people find you? I've been interested in giving this a go.
On average, I streamed 2-4 days in a week for a few hours (~ 4) each day. I never had any negative experience with my viewers if that's what you're asking. You should definitely give it a try ⚡️
I am going to start doing this. Have to get OBS setup etc.
What's OBS?
It's what I've used to record all my screencasts. It's powerful and has zillions of plugins. Think "WordPress of Streaming/Video recording".
https://obsproject.com/ Open Broadcaster Software. It is free and widely used. Harder to setup a bit.

Also, I wrote a blog about the experience: https://noahbragg.com/blog/what-its-like-building-a-startup-live/. I'd say if you had a weekly schedule and made the stream as interesting as possible by having goals that people would be interested in coming back to see your progress could make it beneficial for you as well as others.
Obviously having some coding experience will help you as you'd be able to teach others as you go. Explain to them why your doing what your doing and how you make decisions. You want to make it valuable for others.

yeah there were 15 minute breaks every once in a while.
Same as @shanefromfargo - I gave it a lot of thought, but I don't think I'm able to entertain while coding and solving problems.
But do you have to really entertain? Keeping them engaged might do the trick right?
Honestly, I think without the entertainment factor you'll lose them in under 10 minutes. You'll only know if you try though, I definitely don't want to discourage you from giving it a shot!
There are certain people who could stream paint drying and still be successful, because they have the personality.

I've wanted to do this for a while, but I just don't see how anyone would find this interesting. Ha programming is boring. I guess @patwalls had success with this. I just thing people would get bored with watching me code.

Make it about the product/launch, not the coding.
