Step 2 of the Stair Step Approach's largest milestone is “buying back your time” (https://robwalling.com/2015/03/26/the-stairstep-approach-to-bootstrapping). In a sentence, this means that your project(s) can sustain your lifestyle and you no longer need a traditional source of income, like a 9 to 5.
Currently I work a great full time job where I’m learning applicable skills for my projects (Serverless cloud computing being the big one) that provides a lifestyle that I really like.
I work nights and weekends to build something that I hope will at least match my current salary. This way I won’t have to do any lifestyle changes (still be able to pay that mortgage just fine) if I decided to go full time into one of my projects. Think about what you can do with 8+ back!
I think “buying back your time” is an amazing target to aim for, and can be applied to any indie hacker along the cost of lifestyle spectrum, from a couch surfer living in Bali to a parent currently raising multiple children.
Have you guys bought your time back? If so, how long did it take you?
How much more would your project need to make for you to comfortably be able to leave your full time job?
Yep!
To me this is the ultimate goal.
This is true freedom and I plan to attain it.
I'm rooting for you!
Likewise my dude! Are you still on the double grind? :)
What kind of double grind?
Full time work and side project?
Or Side project and side project? 🤣🤣
I'm the latter.
Full time work and side project :3
Currently focused on a single 'side' (main) project haha.
I have ~4 months of runway left after I complete this I hope to double down on marketing and then ship one more product!
After that it'll be part time work and side projects.
I want to buy my time back like you've described more than anything!
The journey continues.
Still working on this one! It is definitely the main goal though!
Hope you get it soon my dude! What are you building atm to get there? :)
Thanks! You too.
It's a platform to help new founders feel less lost and alone by giving access to garenteed peer and expert advice. By giving personal support founders make weekly progress from day 1.
Here it is - Oxogen.io
oh wow this is great, am I correct in saying that this is like an expert network? but with a monthly subscription instead of on demand?
The idea is that we create a community incentivised to support each other to make the right steps each week. As peers support each other and progress their idea they collect points they can redeem for expert input.
I have updated the site to be clearer with the value prop - Oxogen.io
