Have you experimented with Press Release publications

Hey, fellow indie hackers, how's your Friday going?

I just read about a pretty good success story about a guy using some old-school press release services (~$100) and attracting a number of users for his new app.

I'm wondering, have you tried using Press Release services, and if you have, what was your experience which was the company.
